HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, the first thing that hits you about the Disney Dolphin isn’t the massive dolphin statues on top (though those are pretty wild) – it’s how different it feels from the typical Disney bubble. You’re technically on Disney property, but this place has a totally different vibe than, say, the Grand Floridian with all its Victorian frills. It’s more like a sophisticated resort that just happens to be in the middle of the magic.
The location is actually brilliant if you know how to work it. You can walk to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios – and I mean really walk, not that Disney “walking distance” where you’re hiking for 20 minutes. The boat that runs between the resort and the parks is honestly one of the best-kept secrets; it’s way more relaxing than dealing with the monorail crowds, especially during those crazy busy times around holidays. Plus, you get early park hours since it’s an official Disney resort, but without some of the chaos that comes with staying at the castle hotels. The pool area is where this place really shines though – there’s this grotto pool that feels almost tropical, and the kids go absolutely nuts for the waterslide. What I really appreciate is that even when the resort is packed, the pool never feels overwhelming because of how it’s designed with all these different levels and hidden spots.
You know what surprised me most? The restaurants are actually worth eating at, which isn’t always a given at resort hotels. Shula’s Steak House is pricey but legitimate, and if you’re doing a special occasion dinner, the steaks are massive – like, Instagram-worthy huge. The coffee situation in the lobby is solid too, which matters more than people think when you’re getting up early for rope drop. I will say the rooms are starting to show their age a bit – the Dolphin opened in 1990, and while they’ve renovated, you can tell it’s not brand new. But honestly, if you’re spending most of your time in the parks, who cares if the carpet isn’t perfectly modern? The beds are comfortable, the AC works great (crucial in Florida), and the soundproofing is surprisingly good considering how busy Epcot Resorts Boulevard gets. Parking is $25 a night, which stings, but that’s pretty standard for Disney property these days. One thing that’s genuinely nice – the check-in process is usually smooth, and the staff actually seems to know what’s going on, unlike some places where you feel like you’re the first guest they’ve ever seen.
