HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of fancy places in Napa, but the Four Seasons on Silverado Trail actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. First off, you’re not dealing with the circus that is downtown St. Helena or Yountville – this spot in Calistoga feels removed from all that, which honestly is exactly what you want when you’re trying to decompress. The property sits back from the road enough that you don’t hear much traffic, just the occasional rumble of a harvest truck during crush season.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to feel luxurious without being stuffy about it. The staff knows their wine (I mean, they better at these prices), but they’re not going to lecture you if you want to drink a Pinot with your steak. The spa is genuinely good – not just Instagram pretty – and they actually use the geothermal springs that Calistoga is famous for, which a lot of places around here weirdly don’t take advantage of. The pool area gets busy around 2 PM when people come back from tastings, but mornings are usually quiet if you’re an early swimmer like me.
Here’s the thing about the location that took me a while to appreciate: you’re close enough to bike to Schramsberg or Frank Family (both worth it), but far enough from the main drag that you feel like you’ve actually escaped somewhere. The rooms face either the valley or the mountains, and honestly both views are pretty spectacular, especially in the morning when the fog is still lifting. Check-in was smooth – they had my car sorted and bags handled before I even figured out where I was going. Parking isn’t an issue here like it can be at some of the boutique places closer to town. The restaurant is solid too, though I’d still drive into town for dinner at least one night because, you know, that’s half the fun of being in Napa. Just don’t expect to get a table anywhere decent without reservations, especially on weekends.
