The Little Nell Overview

First Impressions

Walking into The Little Nell feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly sophisticated mountain home — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited resources. This five-star property sits right at the base of Aspen Mountain, and I mean literally at the base. You can ski directly to the hotel’s entrance, which honestly feels a bit surreal when you’re gliding from the slopes straight to the valet stand. The lobby strikes this perfect balance between alpine charm and modern elegance, with those floor-to-ceiling windows framing the mountain views that’ll make you forget whatever stress brought you here in the first place.

Location & Setting

The location is pretty much unbeatable — couples consistently rate it a perfect 10, and after spending time here, I get why. You’re steps from the Silver Queen Gondola and walking distance to Aspen‘s core, but tucked away enough that you feel removed from the tourist chaos. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free with private spots available on-site, which anyone who’s dealt with Aspen’s parking nightmare will appreciate. What really struck me was how the hotel manages to feel both central and secluded — you can hear the mountain’s quiet, but downtown’s energy is just a short stroll away.

The Room Experience

My room had this warm, residential feel that luxury mountain hotels often miss — think cashmere throws, custom furnishings, and a fireplace that actually works (and yes, they’ll light it for you). The bathrooms are particularly impressive, with deep soaking tubs and heated floors that feel essential after a day on the mountain. Every detail feels intentional, from the locally-sourced bath products to the way the windows frame specific mountain peaks. The beds are the kind you sink into and immediately start planning how to recreate at home, though honestly, I don’t think the thread count alone explains how comfortable they are.

Dining & Wellness

The restaurant scene here deserves its reputation — Element 47 serves food that feels both refined and rooted in the region, with ingredients that actually taste like they came from somewhere specific. The spa takes a refreshingly understated approach to luxury, focusing on treatments that complement the mountain environment rather than trying to transport you somewhere else entirely. I particularly loved how they incorporate local elements — the altitude recovery treatments actually work, and the outdoor relaxation areas let you soak up that thin mountain air while staying warm.

Why Guests Love It

What sets The Little Nell apart is how it enhances rather than competes with Aspen’s natural drama. The staff seems to genuinely understand that people come here for the mountains first, luxury second — so they’ve created an environment that amplifies both. The ski-to-door access isn’t just convenient, it’s transformative — there’s something magical about ending your day on the slopes by literally skiing home. Whether you’re here for the winter sports, summer hiking, or just to disconnect in one of the most beautiful settings in Colorado, this place gets out of your way and lets the experience happen naturally.

Ski-in Ski-out at Ajax. Ski locker is literally next to the gondola. Location in town is also close to restaurants and shopping. Rooms are spacious and recently updated. Numerous restaurants and bars on the property. Great staff, ready to assist with all wants and needs. Free shuttles to and from the airport, around town and to Aspen Highlands.

No other hotel in town can compete with the above!

Location is unbeatable and generally the service was amazing. They even unwound my wife’s hairdryers cable which was a mess - never before experienced something like that. Great snacks for free in the room. Quality breakfast.

Manager let us change our original room. We were above trash truck, gardener, delivery area, constant noise all hours of nite and day. Room we got after that nightmare was terrific. Very clean, spacious and above all…peaceful. Manager also sent up and bottle of champagne, a card and chocolate strawberries for our anniversary. That was extremely kind of him. He was great to work with and made things right. Lived how they picked us up and dropped us from airport. Overall the employees were all great.
